Polymer clay sculpture class - Day 1

Polymer clay sculpture class was quite a blast. Also, a big leap to the unknown. When Leyla showed us a polymer clay puppet from a previous project, we all thought she was making fun of us. Really, like we can make with our little fingers those elaborated and, at the same time, so cute toys.
Well, and so we started. With wires and pliers. We cut pieces of wire and made a cross – the intersection of arms and body of an ungendered person. We even bent the wire to make allowance for head, hands and feet. Next, we proceeded by reinforcing the wire with an additional spiraling wire, so the structure of our body to be acquires some basic resistance to stress. Once this step accomplished, we gave some “flesh” to our “wired” guy by adding aluminum foil. We gave him/her a torso, arms, legs and of course, a head. It took us a while to get that the body joints do not need to be covered by anything at this point.
Wow, the way our guys looked with all that aluminum foil. Thick arms, small head, crippled legs. Some of us panicked in face of such anatomic monstrosity, some of us laughed and all of us went over Leyla asking for immediate healing of the unwanted deformities. And so she did.
Now our guys to be have been labelled with their creators names and are patiently waiting to the second session, to get a body of clay.
